Default Has anyone here bypassed the stock oil cooler?

If so, what effects did it have, if any, on either oil or coolant temps?

I've had that damn thing fail a couple times and it's a huge PITA. If I could cap those lines or connect them to bypass the stock cooler, I'd like to do so and remove that entire thing in favor of an external cooler.

Default iirc there is an easier way...

the plate which diverts the oil into an external cooler should replace the stock cooler. so all you'll have to do is plug the water lines.

Default I replaced the 1.8T oil cooler with the cooler from a 2.7T.

Oil warms up almost identical to the coolant, which is really beneficial, and peak temps even at the track have only been around 220.

Hmmm...very interesting. I'd love my temps to be like that. Is this difficult or expensive?

Default IIRC, it can be done for about $200 & a couple hours of work.

I've got an extra set of the parts if you want it. S4 cooler & O-ring, S4 threaded cooler/filter shaft.

Default Thanks for the post, Mat. I'm going to do a little more research and keep this post saved.

I may be getting in touch with you later.
