Default Has anyone tried using oversized oil filters on the 1.8T A4? ...

Since I didn't get much response on the A4 forum, I thought I'd try here...

Purpose: mainly in order to increase the filtering efficiency as well as to increase the overall (very small to begin with) oil sump capacity?

I know there is an OEM filter (PN# 068 115 561E) out there, which is slightly larger than the stock filter. Is there enough space to fit it in? Anyone tried?

Thanks!

By the way, here's what some vwvortex people have come up with on their 1.8Ts, although their engine layout is different so maybe they have more room to play with:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=691260</a

I know on the V6 you can run a VAG diesel filter that is ~1.5x larger than the standard unit. It doesn't clear some of the I5 engines however (depends on the filter bracket). I think you may just have to order one, and try it...

Default interesting thread...

perhaps someone can explain what the pressure bypass valves and the anti-backflow valve built into oil filters do? I have no idea that they had built in valves...

anti-drain valve (trys to) keep oil in places like the head resulting in (hopefully) less wear at startup.

From my understanding, the pressure bypass comes into play when pressure is either too low or too high. Can't remember which.

I think this may have been discussed a few times, either on here or maybe the 80/90 forum? I know I've seen it talked about on AW before to clarify things a bit, just can't remember where.
