Default Help! Pushing in rear brake piston

Replacing rear pads on my new S4 (300 miles) with C-tech pads. I have the tool wit which I can turn & push the piston. Question: which way do I turn? No matter what I do, the piston doesn't go further in.

Turn it a few times and then push it in with a C Clamp and repeat if necessary. Warning, the Ctechs will squeal like crazy and initial bite is terrible.

Just a normal (wood working) c-clamp works.

I had to actually get a tool for this on my A4. Normally either c-clamps can get it. However, some models require you to turn the piston. Sometimes you can turn it with a screwdriver or needle-nose pliers. There are two types of tools that I have seen specifically for this purpose. One is a flat disk with a couple of pins on it that attaches to a ratchet. The one I had to use on the Audi was a cube with a different set of pins on each side. This tool also fit on a ratchet. I got mine at Pep Boys. $10 if I remember correctly. I do not know for certain if this is required on the S4.

Default Welcome to the Audi rear brake masochists club...

...yes, you have to push to the end of your strength and leverage while turning clockwise...then it will move in; if you don't push hard enough, it will just turn clockwise. I found it helps GREATLY to open the bleeder valve and let the fluid drain directly out of the caliper while the piston is pushed back.

Default No - PeteH is correct... it needs to rotate... Pep boys and other places

like that sell caliper piston tools.. They all work the same way. The tool has a couple raised points that fit in the slots or holes on the piston face. This allows you to grip the piston and turn it while pushing it in.

Default Well Rich is correct...

Often times the C-Clamp will grab and turn the piston. If it doesn't you could use a set of channel locks and grab the piston to turn it while using the C clamp. BTDT
