Default hey, anybody around put NOS on 12v engine?

is there any issues? Ok, I know it sounds very ricy, but I see a lot of discussion about the performance mod options. turbo/superchargers do not exist, other options require a lot of changes or give only minor gains. On the other side NOS is well known, employed only for short period of time so does not affect engine during most of the time, does not affect work of other systems (like vacume driven stuff). The drivetrain should handle at least 259lb*ft of torque (at least this is what S6 does).

<nitpick>
One, NOS is a company, call it Nitrous, N2O, something. NOS is what "ricer" types call it...

Two, are you thinking a wet kit, or a dry kit? Three, what HP shot are you planning? Four, what kind of mileage is on the engine?

Default well, I am not planing (yet). And you might guess, that I am not good in this subject

I just see a lot of posts about the same "how to get more performance" and wondered, why people do not consider N2O. My engine has 110K on it and what are these "dry" and "wet" stuff? Do you mean, if I will wet my pants, if I will turn it on or something?

Ok, if serious, I would apreciate some recomendations, personal experiances, refferences for some moderete system (like extra 25-75 hps).

Thanks.

Default There's probably one 12Ver and one 30Ver in the A4 forum who have a 50 shot...

I have one also, but not intended as the only mod.

The 12V has real small injectors (15.4 lb @ 3bar) so adding a 50 dry shot alone will work, however, it is a bit on the lean side for the engine.

My suggestion is get a 5 bar fuel pressure regulator (fixed or adjustable). The higher pressure will not affect the fuel trim for idle and cruising much since the injectors will be putting out fuel within spec, however at WOT which listens to a different fuel map, the 1 bar gives the ability to handle safely 210hp at a conservative 85% fuel injector duty cycle, enough to safely use the extra shot of Nitrous. A generic NOS kit also comes with a fuel pressure pressurizer for the vacuum line but after measuring the bosch fuel pressure regulators, it does diddly by only increasing fuel pressure by ~4-5psi (~0.3 bar)

I doubt you'll find a wet system anywhere for this car unless you fabricate one yourself.

wet = extra fuel injected into the engine, usually in the intake manifold or by the throttle.

dry = no extra gas injected, generally not a good idea, unless you are talking small shots.

Wet kits are safer for the engine, less of a chance to go dangerously lean with a big shot and melt a piston or something along those lines. Wet kits are also more $$$. There's all sorts of info on wet and dry kits out there, several of my friends are running 50-150 shots, wet and dry (dry 50 shot on an LT1 isn't gonna make it go lean).

Nitrous Express (NX), NOS, and a couple other companies that I can't think of are common. Look on a Mustang or Camaro board for better information, at least as to what works the best for them. Any kit should be adaptable to a 12v.

Default I have Nawz :) NOS basic dry kit - includes two solenoids, a single jet which includes 3

restrictors 50, 75 and 100. I've been using the 50 shot, although I just want something smaller - like 20 but it is not available.

The kit cost I think $475 when I got it in 2001.

It comes with a WOT switch - but because I previously had ERAM's installed, I already hacked a radio shack WOT switch on the TB, and a 4000rpm vacuum switch - hence the nitrous only kicks in at WOT over 4000 rpm - to avoid engine damage from idle WOT.

Since then I've been taking a lot of pictures from my installs, including my turbo. I've just been lazy to post them because of the cropping and uploading - and JET probably already watches my picture poster cuz I have a lot of stuff in there If interested, I'll upload pics of the nozzle, the WOT switch, and I can draw diagrams of how I connected the Nawz.

I can stick the pics up on either my purdue server space, or on my space at audi-quattro.org

Could also create a read/write directory on either, so you can upload them.

Let me know if you want to do that or not...

well, if/when you get write-ups and and pics organized, can always snail-mail me a CD or something (or send the text portions, and s-mail the pics). You do have a burner, don't you?
