Default How exactly am I supposed to gap my 3 prong spark plugs?

Whats up. Like it says, how do I gap my plugs? They are the stock copper NGK plugs. I'm only asking cause I put new ones in today and my car started acting up - CEL flashing then steady, obvious misfiring, etc.

My setup is below. Any recomendations on gap size?

Default You don't have to ......

that is the purpose of those type of plugs... the 3 prongs are on the sides of the center electrode

Default I'm confused now. What the hell is all the talk of gapping plugs then?

is that on the 2.8? Why is my car not running right then? AHHHHH!! I knew I shouldn't have changed the plugs myself. I thought it was un-f-uppable. Here's a link so you can see what I'm talking about.

Spark Plug Link

Default you need to vag your car and see what ....

cynlinders are missing. sounds to me like your coilpacks are bad, cuz that what happened to me. my car was missing, so i changed plugs and it did the same thing you described. fine when idling but when i got on it it missed like crazy. i vagged my car and switched the coilpacks around the the miss followed the bad coilpack. so you might want to try that. you only need to gap a plug if you have the standard single prong which hang over the electrode. good luck

My car didn't misfire before I changed plugs. Faulty plug or did I break a coilpack?

Default Do you still have your old plugs?

try putting them back in and see what happens.

Also make sure that one of them isn't loose or something, and that you've got the coil connector ground strap hooked up as well.

Default Yup. I'll go do that right now.

I checked all connections and everything looked/felt fine. We're having a VAG-Com gtg tonight so everything should be sorted out by then. I remember that one of my plugs was kinda tough to remove, there may be some crud in the threads.

Is it possible to break a coilpack by removing it without unclipping it?

Anything is possible, but it's very unlikely.
