Just finished the block and got the motor mounts made. Car coming along nicely. More Pics to come. Block is a 2L VW w/1.8t head mounted like John Bass with a few departures from his formula. Car was built to run 24 endurance race so longevity was paramount. Some major block surgery was done

Maincap beefing b4 girdle - VERY strong setup

This gives us the bottom end to run 30+ lbs for extended tome. Comp. ratio is set @ 8:1 and the rings have all been moved down on the J&E's. Doing the block this way was a real pain, but it is the only way to do it for longevity in a track/driver IMO. Lots of surgery to do this, every piece had clearance issues. We even had o cut the gear on the oil pump, due to using a beefier unit (stock pump had no clearance issues, bigger pump had to have part of gear milled to have rod clearance). Hell of a block, but the build requires a lot of extra steps to do it right.

Sounds like you did pretty much the same thing I had done to my setup
only I used the stock 1.8 block. JE moved the rings on mine and made the top of the piston thicker, with a 8:1 comp.

Yeah that Gear was a real pain.
But did you fine you had to do any mods to mains girdle?
and have you fitted the sump yet?
