I lost a race against a wagon with my stock S4.
I just got my new engine and tranny chip from Garrett for my Volvo V70R today. I installed it, here's what happened.
Firstly, the car was amazingly faster than before. Instant turbo spooling and AWD wheel spinning torque, with an automatic.
So I challanged one of my mechanics to a race, him driving the Volvo, me the S4 (nobody drives my car but me).
Off the line(light power braking), on the hiway, up a hill, the Volvo SMOKED me every time. I just couldn't pull on it anywhere, not even at speeds over 100 MPH.
Had my S4 been chipped it might have been a different story, but I'm not totally sure about that. It more likely would have been a more even match. But I should say, I rather drive the S4 any day, because it is still superior.
I realize this may sound like bull****, but my 3800 pound Volvo V70R AWD has officially spanked my S4. Now, if only the Volvo had bigger brakes and the IPD dual exhaust. It needs them now.
Thank-you Garrett for doing your magic. My Dragon Wagon will be the talk of the town :-)

I took a ride in AWE's new S4 Avant
They put the new GIAC software in, 18" wheels and H&R coilovers. There were 4 of us in the car and the thing accelerated like my M Coupe. I was extremely impressed.

car comes with 261HP, chipped must be interesting
I'm not too surprised. However, I don't care what chip you put in the Volvo, it isn't going to have "instant turbo spooling", at least not from my experience.
I'll take the S4 over the V70R anyday. I tried to buy a V70R years ago. The interior stinks (new one is better), the AWD system really stinks, and the engine suffers from typical low displacement/high boost problems. i.e. turbo lag, flatspotting, and generally having to flog the engine to get anything out of it.
V70R does have more space inside though.

Hmm, it's instant compared to how it was before. The extra timing helps it spool much faster.
Premium fuel is a must now, but the OE chip was tuned for 87 octane believe it or not.
And all the typical problems you mentioned about flatspoting and having to flog it, have been greatly reduced by the custom chip Garrett made for me. The boost comes on HARD in first gear if you hammer it, but it is smooth if you are smooth. The car is deceptively fast.
Now with the extra 50 HP, the crappy AWD takes even longer to catch up to the front wheels(more torque steer). As you know, the car is really front wheel drive anyway. Oh well.
Passing on the hiway has taken on a whole different meaning with the chip. It's no chipped S4, but it's good enough for the family Dragon Wagon. It really takes people by suprise!!
