If you had to replace the turbo in your 98.5/99 A4 1.8T, which turbo would you get any why?
Yes, assume a performance slant individual driving the car pretty hard.

K03 can be had for cheap $500 new and way less for used, K04s are `$800, this doesn't
the T25 or T28s or T28RS options as well, are of which are more expensive than the K-series.

I've seen brand new KO4 sell for as low as $640 from Pro Imports.
I will be selling my KO4 kit soon. 6 months on the car (2000 A4 1.8TQ drive by wire)... with GIAC chip, N75 "J" valve and 5 bar fuel pressure regulator. Will sell cheap.

If you want to do it on the cheap...
then get a KO4, buy someone's Wett KO3 chip and i think for $50 you can upgrade to Wett's KO4 software. Get a FPR for a bit more fuel, and be done with it.
Alternatively, just buy someone's KO4 software, and then get the KO4 pieces...should be able to do the kit for about 1500.
I would just get AWEs kit for ease if you don't mind a couple extra bills.
All the above will be easy, not require a new clutch, and pretty much be oem parts.
FYI i sold my KO3 with 25000 on it for $300.
