really necessary. It's the metal plate, really thin, that goes between the engine block and transmission. Is it really necessary enough to be there? What would happen if I left it out? I hate it when I don't get to finish a project at the same time, this car's been apart for over a year.....and it'll take a week to get it sop'd.

I also realize the irony here....just wondering opinions.... ;-0

Default Re: I havent ran that piece for almost 2 years....

Im also in the cali climate though. I really dont think it'll be an issue. It'll keep your clutch and flywheel cooler.
Just an FYI,there is an open gap that is visible.

Default Doesn't that plate have the sleeves that help align the bell housing to the block? I think they

carry some load as well.

Default

No, it slides over the guides, which are in the engine block.

Default It's not totally necessary....

but I'd bet you'd get a lot of dirt and crap making it's way into the clutch area without it.

I bet you could just make one....

Default Make one.

Keep the dirt and water out. I bet youve got a decent clutch setup going in or already in also, wouldnt want to cause problems, right?

I bet you could make one for under 10 bucks.

Default Thanks for everyone's input. I broke down & ordered one.....

But the odd part is that audi parts warehouses are doing inventory this week, and to order a new one would've been quicker to fly to Europe & buy one! So, I called Dad's Auto, who had to take out an engine of a junked A4 to get me the part, for $25. Sorry, I feel like I ruined someone's day there. It'll be here next week. I had Friday set up to work on it, bummer. I do have 3 cars at the shop with engines out, and one with heads that are ready to go back on, so it's not like I won't have anything to do....

I just never get to work on my car!@#)($#@%&

& I do have a lwfw/AWE clutch setup.

Default Yeah Audi/VW parts have been going through alot lately...

First, they converted to thier new "Parts on Command" ordering system where all thier ordering is done online now as opposed to the old Reynolds&Reynolds system. Ordering was down for three-four days.

Now, a week later, they decide to do inventory. :-(

They are great with parts, but not for the last two weeks.
