Default I'm thinking about getting an audi what should I get?

Hi I'm new here and am interested in getting a used Audi but I don't know what model I should try to get. I have somewhere between 5-10K to spend assuming I sell my Toyota. I found a '90 90 20v Quattro with ~90kmi and a wrecked Air conditioner that I could trade straitup for my car. I'm also considering a '93-'95 90 with a V6 or a A4 turbo. Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Depends on what you want to do with it, and how much you have to spend.

Definate project car is the 20v sedan. Getting to 200hp is definately doable with the 7A engine. You can get a "big brake kit" for that car from BIRA, Ground Control makes coilovers for it, and it has a great support website (www.20v.org). BTW, that AC system is expensive to fix. BTDT on the '90 CQ...

The 12v 90, pretty much not worth your time to mod. No one has really gotten a whole lot of power from that engine w/out going custom turbo with custom engine management. Most I know of is around 215hp from a very worked over engine. The turbo I know of was a very time intensive project but has had very good results after "teething" issues were taken care of. Neither engine was cheap to build up.

A4t/tq's have awesome potential, abundant chip tuning, all sorts of mods for that thing. Probably one of the most supported Audis out there, besides the original 20vt cars (2.2L 5cyl). Cheapest way to get beyond 200hp and on your way to 300hp is with the A4. Also goes pretty darn good with suspension mods...

Drive them back to back, you'll notice several differences. The '88-92 80/90 cars have heavier steering, brakes, and clutches which I like. The '93-95 90 got a lot lighter in the controls. The A4 is actually worse. Those are things you just get used to though.

Its really just personal prefernce, what you have to spend, and what you want out of the car. For the money you have to spend, I doubt you are going to find much in the A4 range of cars. You can pick up 12v 90q's in that range, and you can easily pick up a 90q20v for $4-7k.
