So, has anyone upgraded to a K04 turbo while using either stock or K03 chipped software (specifically APR V3.0)?

Other than not maximum performance, is there any reason why this switch will not work? I would like to eventually upgrade both but in the short term, for the next year or so, this may be my only option.

Since the software is load based I assume that the software controls the waste gate to deliver the desired boost. The only think I can think of is the time constant of this control loop may be too long for the higher volume K04.

I asked this same questin to T5 a while back and was told that it will throw a code becaue it will detect something is up with the turbo. I don't know exactly what happens. The question that I asked was if I could just run a K04 while running the stock program, so it may be different with a chip, but I doubt it.

I run it that way to take it to the dealer. Feels modestly better than a total stocker but really not woth the effort without the right chip. I also have never run it more than 100 miles or so on the stock chip.

I wanted to be able to switch back to the stock program for the dealer and since the K03 looks similar in appearance to the K04 they probably wouldn't notice it. Your lucky that you are able to do that.

....so your K04 w/ stock chip / K03 chip runs fine leaning out the A/F mixture too badly or detonating? I'm about to be put into a similar situation with a K04 w/ K03 chip, so any info would be great..
