koni coilover install ... how many hours? how much? tia
#2
Jasyn, depends on who does the install and under what conditions.
But 6 hours is a good guesstimate. I think Audiboy and I did mine in about that amount of time. Realistcally, you should plan on it taking all day.
You going to do the Norcal drive next weekend?

My HR's took 4 hours at ECP.
It was the longest 4 hours of my life too=) I think that some coilovers are one piece so you don't need to compress the springs, but on mine they had to use a spring compressor. I really don't know anything about the Koni's though. If you don't want to do it yourself then go to ECP cause they are basically the only Euro shop in Houston and they usually do a good job. I was kind of unsatisfied with my coilover install because they didn't get all the corners even(that's why I'm taking it apart on Sunday-lol), but they're coilovers and that's the beauty of them, they can be adjusted=)
If you need directions to ECP drop me an email. There are other shops in town, but they usually do a lot of asians and I just trust a Euro shop more.

Re: Question on Koni C.Os. Are they oil/gas shocks? How different are they from the Bilstein shocks?
Are you talking about twin tube and monotube? Bilstein uses monotube almost always. That is like their specialty and they have patents on some stuff. And I believe that Koni's usually use twin tube, but they have both. Koni is an all around company and they make all types of shocks and they make them well.
The difference is that monotube uses one tube with oil and a little area at the bottom with gas in it that is separated by a floating piston(hard to picture). Twin tube uses a tube inside of a tube and there is gas in between the inner and outer tube at one end(again, hard to picture). Usually monotube shocks are good for auto-x because they dissipate heat really well because there is only one tube, and twin tube is good for the drag strip.
So, Koni's should have gas/oil shocks to answer your question. Almost all shocks do. I wish I had a scanner, I'd scan an article in a Super Street that has great pictures and lots of information. Oh well, sorry for the long and boring shock stuff, but I am bored and am in a typing mood=) If your curious about anything else you can email me, but I am not that good with this stuff, I just know what I've read=)

Re: koni coilover install ... how many hours? how much? tia
My install took just 2.75 hours this week. My mechanic actually charges in 15 min increments (that I consider a good thing) and only charges for the time it takes him (a *very* good thing). However, he does take the time to make sure it's PERFECT ( a VERY VERY good thing)
