Default Looking for advice on install of Eibach/Bilsteins. Dealer quoted me $900 incl. alignment....(more)

I have basic mechanical skills (replaced timing belts, water pumps, etc.) Anything I should be aware of or know about before attempting this myself. I have the Bentley manual for reference. My car is a 98.5/2.8qms TIA.

Default its pretty easy if you have the right tools

I'm going off of memeory so I may be forgetting a something:
you will need
an impact gun or ratchet: 16mm-17mm-19mm
spring compressor
Jack stands (at least two)
You may also need a special socket to remove the spring from the shock- i cant remember if it was this car or my last that required it.

if you don't have at least this equipment I wouldn't bother. Its fairly easy, but when I did it i had access to a lift and it took me about 2 hours to do it all (first time around).

good luck

RC

Default Wow, you must work super fast. It takes a shop at least 4 hours to do. It takes me about 3-5,

and I've done 5 A4's already, plus take out mine everynow and then for readjusting. And you don't need a special socket to take the strut bolt out. You also need a 13 and 18mm socket - and a wire cutter for retainer clip. Did you really do an A4/S4 in 2 hours? Oh wait, maybe, coil overs need more assembly time. My bad, Wait, my eibachs took me a long time too

Default Geez; took my buddy and I about 6 hours at a leisurely pace.

I guess a lift really does cut time.
