Motoroil VW norm 503.00 and 503.01. What's the difference??
#3
Audi Driver mag April 02 has an article on this.....
I'll try to explain: VW 503.00 is a new oil spec for gasoline engines with variable service intervals. It includes the S4 but not RS4, nor the TT and S3 with outputs of > 180 hp.
503.01 New spec for RS4,TT and S3 with outputs of > 180 hp.
Both have Viscosity ratings: SAE 0W-30
what is variable service? This comes from that article and I'm confused by it. Apparently Audis built after 09/99 have a variable service interval.Look in the spare tire well and you'll see a sticker. If it has QC1 on it your car has a variable service. Meaning, instead of intervals btwn oil changes being fixed it depends on the way a car is driven. There is a control unit in these cars that determine when the oil needs to be changed. New oil specs were devised to take into account these variable intervals, so it's important to use the correct oil so as not to screw up the sensor.
