Default n00b ?: If I send me ECU to GIAC for chip, when they send back does it have to be tuned her also?

Or is it a plug and play type of deal?

Plug and play unless you have an exisiting condition that causes you not to run right.

and even then, that's not tuning. That's repair. So, short answer. Yes. Plug and play.

Default Dyno before and after to check a/f ratio's

I've recently seen some pretty poor a/f maps on the GIAC chip and would be very skeptical of them, but if you do go this route get a dyno of a before and after to ensure everything is ok in terms of claimed hp and safe a/f ratio's.

Default Pay a lot of attn to A/F vs MAP

and also log or watch the knock readings with a 1552 or a vag com. A well tuned car should almost never detect knock. Especially on a dyno run unless trying to find the edge on a race machine. On a daily driver the car should only detect voltage with bad gas. You will leave a few hp on the table this way but you will always be able to drive it when others have melted pistons. If you want to test how well a piece of SW is written check the detonation and make sure that knock is not a real factor. In a turbo car this usually means the A/F in the cylinder never exceeds 13.2 (up iis lean lower is fat). When running extremely high boost you should probably never be above 12.5. These are opinions and those tuning for every last ft.lb. wont agree, but I like to drive and you arent driving when you are wrenching.
