Default Need help with Air / Fuel Ratio Gauge install

There were instructions a long time ago that said which wire to tap into (if you're using the stock O2 sensor). Basically there is a brown wiring harness with 4 wires, 3 of them bunched up together and one alone by itself. The instructions said to tap into the one that is by itself. I did that. When I turn the car on, the Autometer unit lights up the last greed LED (indicating very rich). It stays on that and does not change.

Did I tap the wrong wire? Maybe the wire tap did not tap the wire? Any ideas? This is for a 1.8T using non-DBW technology (99 model Passat). Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Default YOU'LL WANT TO TAP A SIGNAL WIRE, THEY ONLY PUT OUT LESS THAN A VOLT...

WITH THE CAR IDLING, TEST THE WIRES WITH A VOLTMETER, FIND ONE BOUNCING AROUND BETWEEN 0 AND 1 VOLTS, AND TRY THAT ONE. IT SHOULD BE THE FRONT O2 SENSOR, AND DO IT WARMED UP.
