besides boost, which is also good to have? which is more important to monitor and whats the importance of each?

EGT, WIDEBAND 02, oil temp, water temp
Oil pressure's damn near useless except as an idiot light, which you already have. Factory oil/water temp gauges are useless for precision.

The A4 has a stock oil temp gauge already and it works just fine.
Oil pressure is good because you will no when there is a oil problem when it happens. I think the oil pressure gauge will give you a earlier warning then the idiot light will which wont come on till its too late. The pressure gauge will also show signs of any issues that come up.

Re: So what should your oil pressure be at 4k rpm's and 50% load?
Oil pressure doesn't vary based on load, only rpm & oil temp.
Cold, at 4000 rpm, will get you upwards around 90+ psi. Warm, will only be around 50-60 psi. This difference is regulated by the viscosity of the oil, & the pressure relief valves within the oil pump.
Gauges for me, are very helpful in tuning, & diagnosing performance problems. I personally have boost, egt, wideband, oil & fuel pressure, & AIT. I also have an AFC which displays a secondary rpm, throttle angle, & fuel curve correction percentage. ;-) I'd recommend boost, egt, & oil pressure.

Re: So what should your oil pressure be at 4k rpm's and 50% load?
I just use my oil pressure gauge as a way of seeing if the oil's fully warmed up yet. The way I figure, if you have an oil pressure problem while you're driving, you probably won't notice until it's too late unless you memorize at which rpm you're supposed to see a certain pressure.
On a subjective level, I use EGT, boost, oil temp, water temp oil pressure and voltmeter, in that order. Hell, the voltmeter's just there so I have a 6th datapoing for the SPA dual gauges.
So the AFC works in the A4's? Interesting that no one else has tried it.
