Need some feedback on these planned upgrades...
I will be getting a 2004 A4 1.8TQ Tip UtraSport. My wife commented that it felt a little sluggish off the line. I spoke to my dealer's service dept. and they are mod-friendly so I'm planning to chip it after I break it in.
Here are my planned mods in stages:
First) GIAC ECU upgrade and Tip chip upgrade with K&N (or similar high flow) air filter, and a HyperBoost HX diverter valve.
Second) Need to save up for this- Milltek exhaust and Milltek HiFlow Cat
Third) More saving- SK04 turbo upgrade.
When the OEM brakes wear out I'm planning to replace them with StopTechs as well.
What are your thoughts? I may do a Borla cat-back exhaust with the Milltek cat just to save some cash towards the SK04...
TIA!

I don't need 338Hp, looking more for bang for the buck!
Ok, the Milltek exhaust would be a splurge, but when it is all said and done, I'd be in the 250-260 Hp range and 240-250Ft-lb Torque on 91-93 Octane gas.

Re: Need some feedback on these planned upgrades...
Reducing the exhaust back-pressure will help the turbo spool faster, which means it will be less "sluggish". A turbo-back system would be ideal.
Roommate had a '97 A4tqm, stock K03 turbo, APR S.1 chip, N75 "Race" valve, Forge? DV/BPV, Borla cat-back, and a K&N panel filter. The car was quick, but boost took a little bit to come up. That is the nature of the beast.
A turbo motor will never feel like a nat. aspir. motor of the same power level. To reduce lag for a given power level, you increase engine displacement and decrease boost.

aka two-step, yes I know, been thinking about just adding a module to the CQ since it is staying CIS
for now. Would LOVE to get boost sitting at the start line of an autocross... :-D

Re: why not just get an s4 to start with?
I love the S4 and test drove it, but this is going to be a "company car" and the S4 rides a little too rough to drive customers around on the crappy streets in Evansville, IN. Also, I have a $600/mo car allowance to cover the car, gas, and insurance. The A4 1.8T works out to $602/mo for 2000mi/mo with gas at $2/gal and an est. avg of 25mpg...
The UltraSport package improves the handling/feel of the car, but doesn't make it too stiff.
