Default Ok...need some solid reasoning on BPV orientation...

I was reading this thread and it is now more confusing with respect to how the BPV should be mounted. I was thinking that the diagram showed the correct way to mount the BPV. However, I am reading conflicting information. Will someone comfirm or deny this? Thanks.

It has been noted that the BPV in this diagram has been incorrectly installed.

Default If using a bosch that is stock, TT or for a Porsche then you install it just like the picture.

This way the boost in the IC, the boost pressure in the vacume hose from the manifold and the vacume pressure from the intake return line all help keep the valve shut. It will stay shut till vacume is made in the manifold and the valve opens. If you put it with the boost coming from under the valve(backwards) the pressure will be pushing on both sides of the valve/rubber diaphram and will cause it to rip at high boost levels. This will happen because there is too forces pushing at the same time against each other and the boost side will have more push since there is going to be less pressure on vac tube side since your adding vacume in the manifold at the same time.

Default I upgraded to a metal BPV. How would you recommend it be oriented?

I was wondering this because it seems to me that no air will go back to the intake return at all in that diagram if I use the metal BPV oriented the same way since there is no give. The only way I can see the excess air (headed towards the IC piping) removed is if the vacuum line sucks the diaphragm open and I don't think it works that way.

Default When using a aftermarket metal bpv it is better to put the boost

under the valve so it opens the valve faster. But yes the vacume/boost tube helps open/close the valve.

Default Sorry for the dumb my dumb question... I just need to confirm w/ ya...

So then w/ an aftermarket BPV, I would install it opposite of the way shown in the picture?

Thanks for your help.

Default One that uses a piston valve

you want to install it opposite of the way shown in the picture. This means the piston bottom will face toward the turbo/boost and the side tube will be the return line to before the turbo.

Default Thanks...that's the way I had it before. I'll have to give it a try this weekend.

This is the way I will orient it...

Default For that valve that is the correct way. I also had that valve on my 1.8t

but took it off a few months later since it gave me a delay in boost when used with a FMIC. It is now in someone elses car with a stock IC and works great.

Default Re: When using a aftermarket metal bpv it is better to put the boost

I'm trying to get my head around this one. If you reverse the install on an aftermarket valve aren't you changing the direction of the back pressure. Does this make sense?
