Opinion on what to do with a pulled GIAC chip, details inside
Ok...Well I'll start by saying that my buddy was replacing a k03 with a k04 + software and when he pulled the ECU and looked inside, BAM, a GIAC chip, well needless to say, the person who owns the car doesnt know about it, so its going into the only A4 in upstate NY thats not chipped...mine.
So the chip was pulled and it was socketed, and I think it also had the encription board on it, (there was the chip, a circuit board that was about twice the size as the chip, and the 32 or so pins) my question is how much would it cost to get my stock ECU ready for the GIAC chip to get socketed into it. Should I get my stock 'chip' socketed incase i want to switch back for any reason. It's a 1998 A4 QT
thanks

hmm
i would think the socket would be solderd onto the encription board? you sure you dont already have the socket too? Either way if you already have the chip and encription board it should be pretty cheap to just have it solderd on. The socket is nice to have both for going stock and for future uprades/programs. I know it has come in handy for me. I think I am on my 4th program now. k03 to t28 to t28 100octane to custom 2.0l program.
