Default Over a 100bar! That is what I just read about the R8R's direct injection...

called FSI. Pushed with a piston pump, that's a lot of pressure! Similar to the TDI only with gas,and get this, they can select two different charge patterns. Stratified which is only rich near the sparkplug and a homogeneous version. Both mean more power and fuel economy, especially at partial throttle. Rocket science.

Default you read that wrong, i think...

The R8 uses one type of charge pattern. The article mentioned the other because it's going to have the largest impact on actual production engines. The fuel saving pattern comes at the cost of lower power, that isn't something you do with a racing motor.

Default In any race long enough to require pit stops mileage has become

absolutely paramount, especially 24 hour events. Partial throttle is a big part of it.
