Default Power steering cuts out during long slalom course...what to do?

If you have ever autocrossed you know what I am talking about. Power steering cuts out during the slalom section of autocross which has more then 4 cones in that section. I do not have underdrive pulleys "yet." I need to fix this problem very soon. What are the options? If you are wondering, no my power steering pump is fine. I hope there are options out there and thanks for the help!!!=)

Default Thank you for a helpful question....

but my fluid is clean with no metal shavings. It smells fine and I didnt notice any leaks in the system. I hope you can help with this. The slalom was very very tight even though it was a 4 cone section.

Default Just making sure you didn't overlook the obvious. PS going on and off on a slalom course sounded

like oil starvation too me, which could happen if you fluid is low or there is a restriction on the system.

and fyi, many of us AutoX here, but I never experienced that problem too.

You might have issues with your power steering rack itself.

What are your symptoms of cutting out anyway? Does it feel like you are driving the car in neutral with the engine off? No power steering is very heavy.

Default I'm with Audiboy here

I've autocrossed a tad myself and have never had PS cut out like you've described. The steering rack and all the PS components are stock on my car. Running the PS fluid low will results in damage to the pump, which has been an issue on track-driven cars, since the fluid has a relatively low boiling point and can evaporate at prolonged high temps (like warm days at Thunderhill). But this would be unlikely at an autox.

As others have hinted, your solution is probably not an upgrade of what you may think is a weak point. But, rather, that you have some other problem with your steering. If you're not bleeding fluid, check the steering rack itself.
