Default Power Surges on 1.8T

Need help guys. I have a stock 2001 225TTQC, stock for now. When in any gear at WOT I get some loss of power at about 4500 RPM's. Then I get some of the power back at around 5200 RPM's. Before chip, new DV, and exhaust I want to figure out why this is happening. Mod's might cover up a problem in the future. I have a few thoughts:

1. Bad or sticking DV, however, I don't get any of the honking sounds.

2. MAF sensor, I've only got 17,000 miles on it.

3. Hosing from from turbo to intercoolers to intake have a leak.

As a newbie to turbo charged engines, I am limited in troubleshooting exprerience. How would I properly troubleshoot the above? Or could I potentionaly have a different problem?

-TIA

Default clean your maf. maybe on your way there you may find something blocking the air passage to it

one thing i can think of why the power comes back is that the flap inside the airbox opens in high vacuum(if its possible at all)
to clean the maf, spray denatured alcohol on the maf element - do not touch it with anything - i broke mine with a q-tip

Default If your car is stock, save the headache and take it to dealer, save some money and buy a VAGCOM...

my best investment so far.
