I would call some shops who use them in VW Audi applications
My friends has one in his 98 A4 and it seemed to be a real pita to install. I'm not sure if he used the auto tune feature, or if he even has it. He might have an older unit.

Re: One of the big problems with the SMC is...
it doesnt allow you to use your stock cluster. There are many other standalones that will allow you to retain your cluster as well as some other parts. All in all every standalone will have its sacrafices but one that doesnt work with the cluster is a big PITA as I see it. ITs one of the better system in terms of quality but it definately has its ups and downs. Most auto tunes are very base maps and always need to be modified for the best results as well as a smooth ride. Dodnt think you can install the unit, click a autotune button and drive away with a big hp audi just like that.
