Default question concerning vented hoods ...

some chick recently backed her jeep into my hood. i'm estimating insurance costs to cover approx $800 which is exactly what the carbon fiber vented hood costs.

my question is ...
snow. say i goto tahoe. it dumps. hard. i wake up and my car is covered with the white fluffy stuff. woohoo! what about the engine bay?

there'll be at least some snow packed in there. what about heavy rain fall? are all components weather proof? visual and performance gains are without a doubt worth it .. but will i be sacrificing reliability under the hood?

any comments/flames/opinions welcome.

i have absolutely no idea.

Default Re: question concerning vented hoods ...Pro's and Cons.

Pro's, "Looks good" reduces under hood heat. Especially good for turbo's!???? Much debate on that one.

Cons, all items you sighted, plus alot more dirt gets in your engine bay! Not all items are "weather-proof" A good hard rain will bring them to light very quickly!

The hood should only be used in a "good climate/season" and on race day!(My opinion)

One doesnt need the extra cooling when theres snow on the ground........

Another consideration is someone can reach in there and pull out items under your hood!

Ask me how I know...........

The hoods a "cool guy" item good on race day, to show the compatition your more serious.......

Default Vented hood..

The hood was not developed in the sunshine of California, but in Michigan's mid-west climate. I can assure it's been tested heavily in the snowfall. With myself being near Seattle, I can attest to the hood's ability to withstand the rain.
