Question on exhaust (A6 2.7T). . . Assistance please
Please excuse any misstatements, I am not a performance guru. A couple of people in the A6 forum have replaced their stock exhaust with a custom aftermarket version. I know that a certain amount of backpressure is needed for the turbo's.
The question:
Do you need the x-pipe in the custom design? If so, is it for balanced back pressure ? One of the guys thinks so but is not completely sure.
TIA
Brian

You've opened a can of worms....MatthewK fabricated a custom early this year
and can probably share 1st hand information, but from what I've read -
The x-pipe does a better job of reducing drone and noise level (compared to the H-pipe and definitely when there is no cross over). In general, the earlier the x-pipe, the better the low end torque (according to the V-8 guys). I'm not exactly sure how valid the is to the turbo application. The Cats supposedly create enough back pressure for turbos (some say lower back pressure is better - while others say some is needed for the turbos to spool.) I've been considering fabricating an exhaust system myself cause it's going to be less than 1/2 the price of the UUC. But because I don't have a way of predicting resonance and noise (I wan't one that doesn't drone nor cruise noisily), I've been stalling. Hape this halps a bit. And please feel free to correct any misconceptions I have.
