Question regarding APR 'race mode' ..
I know 100 octane is required, what if the 'race gas' we put in our car isn't 100 octane? will the ECU automatically retard the timing? or could there be damage?
Another question, would it be possible to boost octane up to 100 with toluene? I've used it before, and it makes the car run very smooth, but it was just in chipped mode. Any advice/comments are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I would not use it with less than 100 octane
that program seriously increases power and should not be used with pump gas. your engine is too valuable to risk blowing it for 5HP you might get from the race program with 93-94 octane fuel. your car can not retard timing that much!
I do not know much about how it would work with toluene though... Did you ask apr?

No I haven't had a chance to talk to APR ..
about Toluene yet.. but from my butt dyno, I'd say the stuff really works.
We have good 94 octane Canadian gas up here, if I use 20% mixture of Toluene with it, numbers show that I would be running 100+ octane.. but of course I wouldn't want to risk my engine for a few hp, but APR DID rate their race program with up to 30bhp more than regular chip mode.

The ECU can only retard the timing by 7 or 8 degrees......
If the fuel you use requires more retard than that you will have detonation which can lead to serious damage if you don't notice it right away. Detonation is extremely hard to hear from the cockpit when your accelerating on the highway; under the most load.

I think it's more......it definitely changes the powerband.
My car feels different significantly different in 3rd and 4th gear. Best time on pump gas was 13.3 on race mode was 13.1

I spoke with APR about this when I got my Stage III.......
They said DO NOT use anything other that at least 100 octane race fuel when using race mode. Nick was the one who told me....he said that it could ruin my engine if anything less that 100 octane gas was used. He also said that octane booster is not a substitute for racing fuel. No matter how much you put in.
Hope this helped,
