Default Question - are there any turbo upgrades that give great, linear LOW-END power?

I thought the torque curve from my old 1.8t jetta was great - max torque at something like 1650 rpm's.

Is there anything out there like this? The stage III kits that put out 251hp at 5000 rpms or so just dont sound that fun in stop and go traffic.

(City boy here)

Not that I dont like my GIAC.....

Default the smaller the turbo the lower the power onset... stage 3 has plenty of low end

you dont feel a loss =) but to answer your question No turbos require spool, therefore can not increase low end...unless you go smaller...then you have less total power... so where do you go??

Default The only way to make power in the Pre-boost is to run a ton of timing and we know APR does not do

that. Go take your car out and sit at a light and start from idle. It will take you a lot longer to get to boost then you think. In 60 ft it will take you about a full second or more longer then if you rev it up and take off.

Default If you want to upgrade while retaining bottom end charachteristics of the stock turbo, get the KO-4

It will give you the KO3 bottom end characteristics with more mid and top end power. As a rule of thumb, the bigger the turbo, more likely the powerband will shift upstairs.

What exactly does advancing the timing do?

Default It burns the fuel sooner. Since the spark is sooner then TDC.

When you do this but still run a lower octane fuel you will hear Ping/knock. When running race gas the tuner must adv the timing to burn the fuel at the right time to make more power. This is where all your tq comes from.

Default This is why I like the PES T28 kit. The power starts between 3200-3800 rpms. This is where the

boost goes from 10psi to 20psi. Right where you want it, since if your driving on the fwy your sitting right at 3600 rpms at 80 mph. Passing a car in 5th gear is a rush =)

Get a full 2.5" exhaust (tip to turbo) and you'll get gains everywhere.

Default Your post was confusing...

The only things that will give you "linear power" is timing advance and compression bump. Timing is already maxed on your current chip and compression bump is pointless on this engine (since it is also maxed).

Twin turbos typically require a lower compression ratio...MORE lag boys, and are technically worthless on a 4cyl.

The bigger exhaust, if done right, is an excellent choice, as pointed out.

The kkk04 is good as it retains a smallish exhaust and a good ratio for the engine size. But, it has more mass and spools slightly later.

A same size ball-bearing turbo will spool up faster, but it will NOT have a linear output. No non-variable turbo comes even close to linear.

That leaves nitrous. A small 50hp shot that cuts in early will give you the early boost you want for very little money and a dramatic imporvement in efficiency.
