Questions about Air-Ducts / hood vents etc...

I am a bartender and one of my new regulars owns a nice body shop. I always wanted a small duct/vent over the Evo intake on the passenger-side and he said he would do it for me. My audi is my everyday driver to school, and during school clocks about 60-75 miles a day. So my point is that its driven in all kinds of weather. My question is this - What happens when it rains or snows? do you cover the vent? I know the intake should not get soaked. Are the vents/ducts, I've seen on the intake side of the 1.8t, pushed back behind intake, so that as the air passes over the vent pulls the hot air out?
