Default To replace brake pads or not to replace brake pads, a little help please...

Audi replaced my OEM TT 12.3" rotors with new ones after 42,000 miles(they were warped). So now I have brand spanking new rotors and mintex red box pads with ~18,000 miles on them.

I also noticed the rear pads are almost down to the backing plates. So I went ahead and ordered new rear pads. Then I was told that I should mate new rotors to new pads so I went ahead and ordered new pads for the front. The current pads have 50% or less of their life left.

So my questions is should I swap the front pads?

Default Replaced because they were warped, they did have 42k on them which includes track events and there

was minimal grooving....

Default I'd use the old pads...

but sand down any ridges (from grooves in the old rotors) by rubbing them against some coarse sandpaper on a flat surface, or against a belt/disc sander if you have access to one.

Default If it's minimal grooving, as Geza pointed above, old pads will do fine with some sanding prior to

install. If you don't have lots of fancy tools, get some medium to coarse grit paper, place over glass or a real flat surface, and sand away slowly. Pad compound is fairly soft and easy to sand. have a light had at it, like almost not pushing down as you may sand in an angle.
