Default s-car list shows MTM chip huge favorite. A4 'chat' forum shows APR leading big. my question:

what's a sound choice for me. getting a new engine, 1.8T right now after my TAP stage II in all probability led to plug disintegration and subsequent scoring, pitting, etc.
out of warranty, no recourse, no response from TAP.

my shop (meaning the one that's done my mods) sells and recommends the MTM. but the boys and girls on A4 forum seem heavily in favor of the APR v3.0 chip.
buying a new engine is bad enough. i sure don't want to make another chip mistake. any advice? TIA

Default GIAC

Dynospot Racing in Mt.View, can chip-while-you-wait!! and I like the local support (if needed)

Dick is a great guy!

GIAC is a great chip!

And never mind my APR Stage III sitting right there.

I spoke to Terry, and I understand MTM's "inside" relationship with Audi AG, but GIAC for me.

Take my car for a put, if you want??
It is'nt running perfect right now though, coolant sensor *fritzed* runs FunkyorRichorSomethingtoDoWithRoughStarts???

let me know!<ul><li><a href="http://www.dynospotracing.com">http://www.dynospotracing.com</a</li></ul>

I would have to agree with ReyHey. GIAC would be the way to go.

Default geo, you're missing something...

s-cars favor the MTM because thats the best for the UrS4/S6, 5 cyl 20v Turbo cars. It doesn't mean that s-cars would then favor the MTM chip for a 1.8t A4...

I would advise you looking into a GIAC chip. I've delt with Garrett personally and he's always come off to me as someone who really knows his stuff. He's actually a doctor, so chips is his hobbey...

If I were to rate the Brands of chips for the 1.8t...

#1 is GIAC
tied for #2 is APR and MTM
#4 is AMS
#5 is Wett
#6 Autothority

Default Ummm, that's NOT a strong endorsement, it's his #1 ding!!!!

I'm not even disagreeing with your rankings, preferences, etc... but it seems like GIAC is constantly trying to overcome exactly the <i>"He's actually a doctor, so chips is his hobbey..."</i> image, so I'm surprised to see one of Garrett's supporters phrase it so bluntly!

Try something like: "In his spare time Garrett does surgery on people too" or "To give you an idea of his attention to detail, his other career is as a doctor" if you want to impress us.

Hobby is just NOT the word to use around any product, IMHO.

Default Why? does it provide a lot more low end torque?

<center><img src="http://snickryder.tripod.com/trips/Laguna/ReyHeyAir.jpg"></center><p>Damn, I couldn't even get my car to launch like this Reyhey definetely has a slight hp advantage compared to my car now that I can't run my ERAM stuff. At least in the track anything goes, until he is APR'd stage III

Default I loved my GIAC chip in my A4 Avant...

It had tons of grunt and after driving QuattroGirls 2.8 all weekend, I'd say either her AMS chip SUCKS or it's been reversed to stock somehow. My Avant had more "pull" here in Denver at 5000 feet then her car does at sea-level. And, the one time I had mine at sea-level, on the east coast, it was a rocketship.

I would definitely recommend the GIAC chip to 2.8 30v owners. I can only imagine that the 1.8T/S4 chips are the same or better.

Default Hey you two.....

GIAC could've easly been APR way back when, but Dynospot and the Chip-while-you-wait was all it took!!!

DBW chips were brand new Feb 2000, and being so local, I was able to run all of the developed versions (3) and Viola, A4 rocketship!!!

APR would be very similar I'm sure!

Now, Stage III, different story 8-)
