S4 rear brakes on an A4????
Some of us have been toying with the idea up upgrading to S4 rear brakes and I am looking for some insight. I have worked out the logic in my head for and against the idea? Does anyone have experiance with this, I like the idea of keeping the rear disks cooler, but I am not sure if I want added stoping power in the rear at the track? Please debate.

no debate really.
if you get bigger front brakes, you can do the rears too.
"if you want s4 rears you need the whole thing carrier, caliper, rotors,
pads. if you want A8s(bigger) + A8 carriers, A8 rotors + s4 brakes."

It will work just fine...
works great on my car. Assuming the ABS is still active in your car, shouldn't be a problem. In hard straightline braking at Putnam and Blackhawk, my car was more stable. Definitely can tell the rear brakes are helping, and the front tires still locked up first. Your bias would probably shift about 5% toward the rear...not so much to get worried about.
Word of caution...make sure you check brake master cylinder compatability first. Although I was still able to get into the brakes, my pedal feel was much softer and the pedal travel was longer after the conversion. Earlier model A4s have smaller master cylinders :-( I've since upgraded to an S4 master cylinder and brake booster.
Steve.

Nope...
Like I said, brakes great, fronts still lock up first. Keep in mind that you have altered your brake bias already (due to big brakes up front and stiffer suspension). Moving the bias to the back is probably beneficial...the stock bias is set up for much softer springs. I run 450/500 pound springs FYI.
Going to ACC event at RA next week? You could check it out there.

Wish I could make the event, but thanks for the insight.
I think that will be my project in a few weeks, I think I am going to get them powder coated to match the fronts.

Bah...there's really no added stopping power.
The pistons are almost the same size, the rotor is the same size, pad area same size.
The benefit you get is vented rear rotors.
I did it on my A4. It's plug and play.
Remove stock A4 caliper, caliper carrier, and rotor. Replace with S4 parts. Your done.
