Default slight oil residue on shock... bad?

I have the koni/stasis 380 kit, and on the driver's side there is a bit of oil where the shaft meets the body.

The other shock is bone dry... I think I might have a little leak.

Anyone else seen this?

Default yup, on my Scirocco with Koni and Intrax springs... Koni's tended to blow up and leak in the late

90's on the MK1+... Sorry to hear that, I hope you have warranty for the shocks... Get Bilsteins if you can...

So any time there's oil leaking out there it might be blown?

Default Sounds like it was bottomed out...Garanteed way to kill a Koni.

Get a hold of Stasis first, and then Koni. Should be able to get it rebuilt for less than a new unit.

Default Not sure if the Konis are like the Bilsteins, which have a lifetime warranty.

If the shocks blow, Bilstein will replace them. Of course if Stasis modifies the Konis, that may void Koni's warranty.

" BUILT FOR A LIFETIME

Last but not least, KONl's are built to last a lifetime. Once you have bought a set of KONl's for your car, they usually will outlive it. KONI street shocks carry a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser for as long as you own the vehicle. Default Oh yeah, that definitely looks like a blown shock.

...oh wait, that's just a pic of your car. ;-)

Likely you've got a blown Koni. Here's a pic of a blown, leaking Bilstein next to a good one....for reference.

Good luck.

Default What's amazing, is that the '87 5kq has 2 blown shocks, but it still out-handles most

other "family sedans" on the road...160k miles on the entire suspension, never changed anything. Will do that this summer, finally.

Default Might not be blown.

Some shock manufacturers say that a small amount of oil sepage is normal. Mostly only applies to aluminum body, rebuildable race shocks though...

Keep an eye on them.
