Default So what comes after a broken easy out? :-)

When I was tightening down the turbo to DP connection, one of my studs on the exhaust side of the turbo decided to snap...Great, just what I needed. I pulled the DP off and thought about how to solve the problem. Since there is no gasket there apparently, I don't trust having just 4/5 bolts to create the necessary seal. Luckily, I thought that this stud would be the easiest to access, so in that case I am fortunate. It is the upper one closest to the manifold if you are wondering. So I went out and bought a trusty tool. I didn't see anything that said easy-out on it, but what I ended up with is a Hanson spiral screw extractor that says it "removes broken bolts or screws". Okay, so I drilled my hole, got the extractor in, and was set. I started trying to turn the damn thing, no go. I decided it was time to go out to the hardware store and get a tap wrench, but they were all sold out/closed by the time I got there. I remembered that a crescent wrench might do the trick and I hadn't yet tried it, so after about a half hour with it and evidence that this tool is stronger than my forged chromium crescent wrench, I am left with a stud still in the turbo, but now it has the tip of the screw extractor, too. So my question is, whats next? Should I try to drill another hole? With what type of drill bit? I wish I could just weld, but don't have access to a welder, and the car is not moving. Any advice to seperate the extractor from the stud. Theres not anything to grab onto, and my attempt to turn it clockwise with a drill didn't do anything to free it. Should I try a left hand drill bit? Any thoughts? Also, so this doesn't happen again, anybody have a torque spec for a turbo/DP connection?

Here is the tool that I bought EX-2

Default oh...

the torch I think I saw on sale for like $20-30 and it looks almost like a handheld propane torch. They are over in the section with all the circular saws and drill bits and stuff.

Default You'll never be able to drill the easy-out.

The only way to grind off an easy-out is with a carbide rotary file on a high speed grinder. You need to heat up the housing till it's red (not the stud,in case you don't know) with small torch and you'll be able to unscrew it.
