Default some update on the gt25r project...

i haven't yet heard of anyone doing gt25r. i know there is kentt who is running gt30r - gt25r is equivalent to gt25/40r on atp website, but i am not 100% sure since garrett catalog changed last year.

anway, the project..its all HOMEBREWED LOL even the flanges...except the manfold.

this is the problem i had to start with. turbo scroll hitting the manifold hence i couldn't mount it this way.
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/15237/problem.jpg">

had to cheat on downturn pipe, due to the orientation of the turbo, i don't see how it can be a perfect 3" mandrel bent. you could possibly make 2" 100% mandrel, but i wasn't gonna order 2"... too small and too long wait.
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/15237/downturn.jpg">

they told me the flex joint was 100% ss, but it was a lie as i found out later.. DAMN U MOPAC!! had to paint the non ss parts with hightemp paint.

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/15237/turboplaced2.jpg">
think 3" is the limit for exhaust size...
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/15237/tight.jpg">

these took forever...

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/15237/gt25rvsk3.jpg">

i am still waiting on some silicones and parts to finish the intake pipings. i can't wait till i take it for a spin, but i have to be patient.. hmmm

feel free to give me feedback or point out what i am doing wrong that will save me money..i really need money.. thanks.

Default the downturn pipe?

5 hole adaptor plate bolts to turbo and the other 3 hole adaptor end bolts to downpipe. you can see the 3 hole adaptor plate from the underneath the car.

Default Re: the downturn pipe?

I would expect that would give you some problems..

Default Re: the downturn pipe?

I would suggest merge the exuast into a 2 1/5 pipe and get a nice bend done.

Default Funny thing about that

I helped my friend put a "kit" in his Integra. They should not have called it a kit, it was basically a manifold, T3/T4, and a FMIC core. You gotta fab the rest.

Anyway - The turbo outlet was right up against a support bar and my friend made a pipe JUST like that 90 angle. There was pratically no other way to do it. I saw it and said - you are screwed - you just lost HP there...

Bottom line - on the dyno his car put down more HP than any other honda w/ that kit. The company who sold the kit could not believe it and asked to see dyno #'s. I still haven't figured that out...

Default Odd for sure, but I would still have a hard time believing a 90 degree

bend with a sharp crease (!) in it like that won't cause a TON of turbulence.

Default No kidding. The air gets spun nicely around the compressor and just as it comes out

BAM! It hits a freaking brick wall.

Default Last semester I did a fluid flow lab where...

We compared the difference in turbulence between a 90-degree elbow and a 90-degree bend(it had a 2" radius. The 90-degree elbow created significantly more turbulence.

The effects of this turbulence on making HP? NFI.
