Okay here is the problem...I currently have a 2000 A6 2.7T and I am just round to makin a final decision about which chip to get...I was plannin on gettin the GIAC chip wit the tip chip but lately I've been readin that the stock tranny can only hold up about 310-320 lbs. torque...is this true?? GIAC is claiming 360 ibs. torque...I'm becoming very scared about what could happen to my tranny...any people running the GIAC chip on their A6 2.7T or S4 tip and havin no problems??? I hear that AMS has a chip claiming 310hp/300 lbs. torque...if the GIAC is a problem I might have to go with the AMS chip...what is the story on the AMS chip??? any feedback really appreciated!~! I just got off the phone with Tony - owner of PES....(long)
I have the Giac chip and tip chip in my Allroad. I was also concerned about the high torque. Tony was assured by ZF (the manufacturer of our transmissions) that 365 lb-ft is well within the limits. He has NEVER heard of ANY tranny failure due to their chip.
As far as AMS chip is concerned, I don't see how it's possible to alter the basic caracteristics of our engines (ie. more hp than torque). Perhaps, 280hp and 300 lb-ft?
Giac products are awesome!! I was so impressed that I ended up swapping the TAP chip for the X-chip in my S4. So much smoother now.
