Spark signal at coil packs- How to test, and how to isolate?

Hey all-

I'm still trying to get my road dyno to work(GTI 1.8T). I can't seem to get a good spark signal. According to the wiring diagram, it seems as if Cyl#1 gets the spark signal for all 4 cylinders, and "distributes" them appropriately(For lack of better words). Is anyone familiar with how this works, and whether or not I'm correct in interpreting the diagram? I will try tapping into the coilpacks of #2-4 this evening to see if I can get a better individual spark reading(As opposed to multiple cylinder readings). Thanks for all the help!

Info..

You should be able to put the inductive pickup on the #1 Coil harness. Make sure you have the pig tails clamped together. THe red and the black...

Then next thing to do is to find a standard V8 car with spark plug wires. Try it on a friends car or truck.

If it does not work then you need to contact Road dyno for a new pickup. I went down this path for 3 days until I realized my pickup was bad. I got a new one and it works perfectly.

Re: Info..

Thanks for the tip, Clark. I didn't know you had to have the alligators clipped together when using the inductive pickup. I've been getting the flashing tach signal, but erratic graphs, etc. I'll try this weekend with them clipped together.
