Stg 3 Problem: Boost problem at full acceleration:

As it says at WOT, (according to the boost gauge) I peak at around 21, then bounce back and forth to about 15, then back again, then it settles somewhere in the middle.
Any ideas? I recently got a VAG, but not really sure what to look for, so please dont say get a VAG, please tell me how to use it! (and which blocks to monitor perhaps with the values I am supposed to have..)

Thanks,

Mark

BPV being blown open?

You could log block 002 for load and MAF readings .. both at idle and then a WOT run in 3rd from ~2500 to redline.
Maybe also look at logging block 020 for timing correction / cylinder ... seperately so you get good data points.

Re: BPV being blown open?

What numbers should I be close to with these blocks?

Any other way to check my BPV? Its a GFB adjustable --Could t be adjusted improperly? Would having it tightened too much be a problem?

Yippers® 10-12-2004 01:22 PM

I don't know jack about the GFB. I would imagine you can have it misadjusted tho. I would also think

it possible to have it too tight as well.

The MAF readings on block 002 should be around 220+ gps at WOT in the upper rpms on your pull

Timing correction shouldn't be over a handful of degrees in any cylinder.

Post your logs here and folks far more schooled than you or I will be able to comment.

I am having the same problem...

I logged 02, 031, 32. I replaced the MAF, and n75 and those problems kind of went away, but now I am running rich, I guess to a hose leak. Stay in touch I'm going to a shop on Saturday, and I'll know what the issue is then. Maybe it is the same for you. I've seen a lot of the same problems happening lately with Stage 3 that people are posting the same issue. Let me know and I'll let you know what happens. (try pressure testing your air system, search for AWE pressure testing).

friend had the same problem it was his plugs. how old are yours?

Good question, Ive had the car since May...

I guess I will go and find BTCC A4!

Yippers® 10-13-2004 02:34 PM

Oh it is his car.

Has the intake been squared away?

Audone 10-13-2004 04:33 PM

Re: Oh it is his car.

Care to explain any more?
I dont really understand what you mean, I'll try searching...

Yippers® 10-13-2004 08:21 PM

He had a pretty kludged up intake on that car

and it didn't perform very well. I don't think it was abused or anything but the intake was pretty poor. It had a tiny filter down next to the turbo .. looked pretty much like a hot air intake to me.
So if the intake hasn't been squared away I'd start there.
