Swapping out manual tranny for the Tip in an A6 4.2??
Possible? and if so, which tranny? what would be expected costs for something like this too?
I'll jump on the bandwagon and look into this now too.

01E 5 or 6spd with appropriate linkage. 01E 5spds were found in the urS-cars, so the 6spd from the S4 2.7tt and the A6 2.7tt will be much more plentiful. You would most likely use the A6's shift mechanism (pedal assembly as well).
EDIT: You may want to find out if the newer V8's have a hole in the end of the crank for the pilot bearing. I know on the old 3.6/4.2 engines they did...
