Tales of my intake pipe and a stock S4 (its long)

Well, a few of you know I have a KO4-26 on my A4 1.8TMQ. Its an Audi motorsport turbo to some and its an OEM turbo on the left cylinder bank off a rare RS-4 model for others. This turbo has a larger inlet than stock and my mechanic at the time did not have a pipe made up to fit the larger inlet and he heated the factory hose and very tightly force fitted the factory hose into the turbo inlet. Unfortunately, my mechanic does not have the time to fabricate an inlet pipe and I drove with the stock intake for several months til I found a few places that were willing to do this job. I had finally narrowed it down to 2 places one in NJ and the other in MI. Both places had access to the factory hose and made one up based on this piece with an larger inlet to match the turbo. The best one came from TDL Racing of Troy, MI. As you can see this pic, the workmanship is fantastic, smooth cuts, bends and stainless steel pipe. I got it installed over the weekend, banged quite a few knuckles, cut fingers and hands. I made sure the fittings are tight on all clamps & hoses and started the motor: fine no leaks, pulled the non-DBW throttle open and no leaks either. Then road test: the response from this motor is phenominal: races to the redline on first gear, second gear and holding great on third with no problems. The car's power felt like a new leash on life, its more powerful throughout the entire powerband. The factory hose acted as an air restrictor like in NASCAR and ALMS series cars. I took it to the highway for a test and was immediately challenged by a car tailgating me barely seeing the headlights. Stepped on the gas and BAM the turbo spooled almost instaneously and pulled away from this car. This guy is not satisfied, coming up to my rear again, I hit the gas again and watched it hit the century mark in no time and he fell back again on my rear view mirror again. Finally the third and last time, traffic blocked me from going any further and he came to my right to pass and what do I see, a silver S4 appears stock that I had eaten alive twice this evening. Oh what a feeling!!! If you plan to get this turbo for either the A4 or S4, get the pipe done, its well worth each and every dollar for the extra air it breathes.

Ed, I missed Import Survival Series 3 this past weekend because of this mod. I will try to do an...
unoffical one in the street. Too bad I don't have one of those G-tech devices, it would make my life easier.

Great writeup...
It's nice to see something a little different being tried out. The craftsmanship on the intake pipe looks great.
What was the cost of the K04-26? What about the intake pipe? Do you have any plans to make a package out of it (turbo, intake pipe, chip, injectors)?
Thanks for any information.

I don't get how you're not running out of fuel.
I have the K04-15 and the stock injectors are barely able to keep up. With your K04-26 aren't you worried about running out of fuel? Or did you upgrade your injectors as well?
Thanks,
Leszek
