Default Thermostat? or?...

I purchased a 2006 A6 3.2 Quattro last July. Even though it has an automatic transmission it's my most favorite car I've ever owned. However, it failed emissions just a month ago. I had the 02 sensors replaced, as well as the water pump. I was told I don't have to worry about the timing belt because it is a "True" German Audi and has a chain belt, as opposed to those manufactured by VW that have regular timing belts? Long story short, I had those 2 items repaired and just 2 days ago the check engine light went back on. The thermostat gauge is where it should be now, right in the middle, but I can tell it's still running rich. Is it most likely a thermostat issue? I'm trying to research so I know what my mechanic should fix. I trust him but I'm new to this so I'm exploring other opinions. Thanks!!
