Default Throttle body, air filter, and exhaust system. Is that all there is for a 12v?

I'm a new owner of a 1994 90 Quattro 5 speed. Since it will be parked for the summer, (it's my winter car) I was hoping to do something, within budgetary reason, to improve the lack of low end torque. I've just spent the last 4 hours (really!) going through the 300+ messages regarding engine performance upgrades on the 12v. One of the things I noticed is that most of the discussion took place in 1999 and 2000. Have there been any changes lately?

I'm aware of the big port heads and cams that are available, but these items go beyond my budget constraints.

My web searches revealed a Wetterauer chip for my car. Has anyone tried one? If so, what are your views on it? Since it is about the same cost as a TAP throttle body, is one better than the other? Would it be advisable to do both?

Regarding the K&N filter, which is better, the stock replacement or the cone?

Any advice offered is greatly appreciated.

Some igntion system I forget

But Ivor @ TAP hoioked us up, tell him I sent you, he gives us members from Motorsports Internatinal a little discount when we use a visa card!

Default check out vortrag

They offer a 60hp package that offers head polishing..
and another package that gets a 12v in the 280-300hp range from what I read.

They probably offer the most significant options for the 12v engine out there.

Default Re: Ya gotta pay to play! Nothing "performance" for an Audi is inexpensive!

For me $300 was just too much for such small of an improvement.

I have the "cone" K&N style filter installed.
Allows removal of the factory airbox, which combined with the throttlebody, makes a noticable improvement.

Enhanced ignition, and enhanced fueling system, combined with a set of Schrick cams, and this 12V
really runs good!<ul><li><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audiworld/registry/details.asp?car=5571">http://registry.audiworld.com/audiworld/registry/details.asp?car=5571</a</li></ul>

Default cams, just 2

vortrag has 'em, also these guys.

stock max power at 5500, vs 6500 redline, leaves room for cam power. lowest $ big power.
