Default Tips on extracting 2.7T from S4

I'm going to remove my motor this week. Any Tips (besides take it to a professional)?

If you're wondering why I'm doing this, see http://www.geocities.com/skendrish/s4.html

Thanks in advance

Steve

Default Do you have a Bentley manual?

If not, I highly suggest getting one.

I pulled the 1.8T out of my car, it's not too difficult, just take your time.

Default "The damn heater hose clips won't come out"

That was me swearing trying to get the clips out Sharon and Corey did most of the work. I just held a jack underneath ;P

borrowed pics from Taner.net

Default I just saw the pics. You're halfway there. Take a sharpe blade and just cut off the hoses that

connect the engine to the body. This include power steering, fuel, heater and some vacuum lines. Cut off all the wires - make sure to cut off anything passed any connector that is on the engine side.

Take off shifter links from the top, take off rear diff, front axles, front subframe, exhaust. Then just pull straight out.

Ouch. what happened?

Default For the most part we followed Bentley

We also removed the tranny and down pipes while still connected to the engine. I don't think Bentley told us to remove the subframe, but we did as that helped make it easier to pull the engine+tranny out.

We spent one weekend simply disconnecting and labeling hoses and wiring.

Installation is the reverse of removal :-) Ask me in a couple weeks how that goes.

I bought it that way. It has a clean title, too.

Default I can Imagine the classified entry now...."S4 wheels for sale, couple of them are burnt"

Original anyway.

How much did you pay for the whole car?

regards,
Liam

Default Now that you mention it . . .

Actually, only one was trashed. I can probabaly get more for it pound for pound as scrap aluminum.

I bought the car for $13k. Hopefully, I won't have more than $22k when all is said and done. I plan on doing all the work except exterior paint.

Does anyone out there know of any good places to find parts?

So far, I've got a line on the interior except door panels. I need a rt front door and rt front fender and maybe a rt rear door. Used S4 front bumpers complete with brackets and light washers, etc. are virtually nonexistant, too.
