Total clutch failure? I say yes!

Who would call this a minor failure? I had problems with this bad boy from day one. Cause of failure was overheat because clutch was slipping. The disk was making contact only on the outer 1/3 of the friction surface. Was this caused by a faulty disk or faulty pressure plate? I think the pressure plate was applying uneven pressure on the disk. Pretty sad when a frankenstein setup of OEM pieces(what I have on the car now) outperforms a $1200 setup. Sorry about the photo size. Did not expect it to be that BIG.

Re: Could also have been a flywheel that had high spots.
That is one that I have not thought of. Add one more possibility. If that was the cause though, I think my current setup would be having similar problems though as I am using the same flywheel. Also the flywheel side of the disk looks fine. Full contact. Pressure plate was not a stock unit.

But the picture you have is of a stock pressure plate.
See the little dimples that look like Mike&Ike candy. That shows you that the pressure plate is OEM, after market pressure plates dont have that and the fingers are straight.

Well I am assuming it is not stock for the 1.8t

It is the pressure plate that came with a clutch kit. The finger are different than the pressure plate that came with my car. The fingers on this pressure plate look very close to the stock on but the thickness of the metal that makes them up looks to be thicker. Yes, I have a light weight flywheel. Here is a picture of the disk.

So I guess
you had the AWE clutch kit then. If so then you were using a stock 1.8 pressure plate that is rated at 1500 lbs. If it was the APR setup the pressure plate would look differnt since they use a sach instead of the stock LUK.
