Tracking your 'every day driver'......
I have a new S4.
Going to move up to the RS4 when it's available next year.
I want to start doing the HPDE / NASA events.
Not alot, but maybe 2-3 year.
do you all 'track' your every day driving cars ?
Or do most of you have a 2nd 'track' car ?
If I got really into it and didn't want to Womp on the RS4, I would probably contemplate buying an older A4t, doing some mods and designating that as my 'track' car, but that'd be pricey.
I guess the bottom line is, if you're driving on a nice road course, like CA Speedway, ButtonWillow or Infineon, aside from the motor running at WOT, the tranny working overtime and the brakes/tires getting worked, will there be significant wear/tear on it from say 4-5 events a year ?
Thanks,
kj

Look at my sig pic...
That should tell you something. That A4 only hit the track once...my old S4s and first A4 hit the track a lot...but then I decided a dedicated track car is the safest way to go.

I'm going to do a few events this summer or so.
If I get hooked, I'll probably look for something that will be the dedicated track car.
Used B5 S4, Evo, STi, WRX ???? who knows...

Yes, there is additional wear and tear. Done right, you are either at full throttle or full braking
for practically 25-30 minutes straight, 3-4 times a day, for 2-3 days straight.
That being said, it's one of the most rewarding driving experiences IMHO that you can partake in. IN addition, it will really give you an appreciation for the abuse that these cars can take and just keep on rolling on.

S4 for dedicated track car? No no no no no...
S4s are nose heavy pigs. Its one thing to drive one as a daily that does a few track days, but you want something more suitable for a dedicated track car.
Unless you're worried about the learning curve of going outside the realm of AWD, get a Miata.

Good way to start
I tracked my daily driver, an A6 2.8Q with Tip, for about a year. Got addicted and bought a used A4 1.8T as a "second car" and dedicated track car.
The additional wear and tear I saw on my A6 was just what you'd expect, tires and brakes. I changed the oil and bled the brakes more often, but otherwise no special maintenance.
Go ahead and track your daily driver for a while to see how much you like it. BTW - my insurance agent (State Farm) told me that I'm covered on the track as long as it's driver education and not racing or time trials.

For me, my daily driver became my track car.
At 2-3 events a year, you'll be fine with the S4. You probably already know you'll need better pads and fluid.
Having a dedicated track car is Sooooo much better. If you have mechanical issues, even things like you destroyed a tire or brake pads, it's nice to park it in the garage and jump in your daily driver. Not to mention if you do serious damage.
See you at the track!
