Default Transmission or Driveshaft noise

So yesterday I was driving along and went WOT through 1st and 2nd and then on decel I heard a very strange noise coming from right under the center console maybe just below the back of the seat area, basically where the transmission ends. Its a whirring sound that changes with speed, really sounds like a heat shield is rubbing the driveshaft, when I got really slow it makes a screeching noise (below 2mph).

If I turn the car off and push it, it still makes the noise. Also I put it in reverse and then drove it and the noise went away until I went WOT again later in the day.

I am still on the stock clutch so I dont and can't shift hard so I know its not from that. Also I was doing exhaust work so I may have bent a heat shield. I haven't been able to get into the autoshop to get under there, but I tried crawling under and couldn't see much.

Does this sounds like a know problem inside the transmission, or a driveshaft balancer or something, or more like a rubbing heatshield. TIA for any input!

Default Re: I say the long shield thats between the exhaust and driveshaft...

Its easy to bend and could be rubbing your driveshaft. I'd check that first.

Default Very possibly, didn't think about that, it even makes it while pushing the car so the mount would

probably have broken off or somehow isn't connected anymore. I'll post the problem tonight

Default It was a stick that bent my heatshield and got stuck above the heatshield and was scraping the

driveshaft...Just in case anyone cared. Very relieved it wasn't the transmission.

What kind of abuse can these transmissions take anyways? What hp/tq

Default It is still good, just had one of the bolts that holds the shift linkage to the housing

snap in half. Here is a picture of that bolt.
