turbo performance on an 88 5000 cd turbo
i just testdrove this awsome looking car, but the turbo seems not to be there at all.For a 164 hp car it should fly , but it just drives like a regular non aspirated 2.2 litre. WHat could be wrong with it? It has 176 k on it and just looks amazing for its years. He wants 3500 cnd and will not nagotiate nor answear any questions.
What should do? Where can i get more info on this.
Puzled!

164 is not that strong...
the turbo on those cars really doesnt spooling strong until after 4000 rpm. It has a large turbo, with a bigger amount of lag that the A4s. It's probably normal.

Re: turbo performance on an 88 5000 cd turbo
Heres what the problem was on my '86.
There is a rubber boot (about 3 inches across) that connects the turbo to the intercooler. Check this hose for any leaks. Make sure you check the bottom under the ribbing which is where breaks usually occur. Any break in the seal, no matter how small will leak enough air out of the turbo make it inefective.
The car in general is vulnerable to vacuum leaks, so check everything else made of rubber while your there.

What RPM should the turbo kick in? It feels kinda jerky to me, but then I've never owned a turbo bef
