Default Turbo Prob's/HELP!!!!

Hi All:

With 40K happy miles logged on my 99' 1.8T, my CE light came on the other day.

I'm running a 1.0bar WETT chip, and immediately noticed a drop in power when the light came on. (I guess the car goes into a mode that limits boost to 5psi when the CE light comes on).

Anyway, I swap out the WETT chip for the stock chip, and the CE light goes out.

I put the WETT chip back in, and NO CE light! Yea!!! Problem fixed? NOPE!

The car is still low on power. I do not get the surge ar 3000+ rpms that we all know and love. Also, I can no longer hear the turbo spool up.

Anyone with suggestions/comments other than...."your turbo is history".

Many thanks in advance.

Default for further diagnosis...

you need a boost gauge. It's very possible one of your hoses split or came off, and you're just leaking boost. A VAG-COM would come in handy to check codes as well.

Thanks! I might have to pick up a VAG tool to keep me out of panic mode (NT)

Default Your experience with the Wett chip

I am going to buy this chip and was worried to hear that you have experienced this problem. What is the CE light by the way? Has Wett provided any reason why this has happened.

TIA Yoshi

Default Once you enter limp mode, you may need to clear the DTC's to reset the car.

But I would look at them first to see what caused it in the first place.

Default Wett chip

Chip has been great! You will really love how it transforms your car.

The power is just incredible!!
I like their socket design so I can switch chips out if I want to (only takes 10min).

CE light is the Check Engine light.

I'll post what I find out is wrong with the car.

Default You will need to clear the DTC's to reset the car. I have had the same prob

Another temporary fix is to let the throttle body recalibrate by leaving the ignition on for about 30secs before starting .. if you lift the hood you will hear it doing its thing. You would have to do this everytime you start the car, to stop the car going into limp mode until you get the errors cleared.
Ive found this worked on mine when i got the exact same problem, I had the same symptoms, low power even slightly rough when you back off the throttle and doesnt settle to idle smoothly.
My errors were to do with the throttle body, cant remember the exact fault codes. And they only appeared with the Wett chip too. Other than that it is one of the best chips out there for certain, look at my dyno chart for the story!

dyno results for wett 1bar with 3" system
