Default Turbo question:

I just recently purchased a new K04 turbo since the realization that mine was cracked through the wastegate.

Upon examining/comparing them (old and new) I noticed that my old turbo has a larger opening by AT LEAST 2mm, along with a larger fan.

I was wondering if there are differences in K04's to explain this, or is it possible that the previous owner of my car, had customized the turbo.

If he did in fact customize it, it was running really well before, is it possible to switch out the back half of my NEW turbo with the front half of my OLD turbo with the larger opening? and just reinstall the old turbo?

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Default which opening are we talking about?

K04-15 should be the same size turbine and larger compressor IIRC.

Default that is what I'd call it too

I thought I've seen pics somewhere with a K03 and K04 next to each other. The K04 should be bigger.

Default the compressor side connects to the IC piping...

the turbine side connects to the exhaust. And the "fans" inside are called compressor and turbine wheels respectively.

Default yeah the K04 should have a slightly larger compressor inlet, but you probably...

couldn't tell the difference in compressor wheels. I think the blade geometry is different....I could be wrong though

Default Yeah, i understand all that. My deal is that BOTH of my turbos are K04's

yet, they are different size compressor wheels.

Thanks for the help on the correct terms.

Default

it would have to be a larger wheel, or there would be just open space around the wheel
