Default Uneven pad wear

I've got Brembo 4-pot calipers and 13" slotted rotors on the front of my 99 A4. I was inspecting the brakes and noted that the outer pads were considerably more worn than the inner pads, on both sides.

The car sees mostly track time, so the brakes get used hard. I swapped the inner and outer pads, assumed this would even out the wear.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is this normal wear? Any problems with swapping the pads?

Default Once had the same problem with my Alcon's ...

when the pad's backing plate was a bit too wide and a tight fit into the caliper. If the inner pad is too tight, the outer pad does most of the work with light braking and wears more than the inner pad.

When I swap pads now, if necessary I'll file the sides of the pad's frame enough to make sure that it slips easily into the caliper.
